Attorney Whit Smith will discuss legal issues related to our jobs as Vermont Mental Health Counselors. Topics will include:

  • Managing high risk situations including counselors’ expanded duty to-warn responsibilities and suicidal clients;
  • Issues related to counselors’ involvement in the legal system;
  • Confidentiality and client-access-to-records issues;
  • Changes to Vermont’s mandated reporting law; and
  • Decisional authority in situations involving minors, divorce situations, and youths in State custody.
Lunch provided 12 noon-1:15

Afternoon Session 1:15-4:30 pm
Our Ethics Panel, Lauren Berrizibetia, MA, LCMHC, Kirke McVay, MA, LCMHC and Christine Wilkens, MA, LCMHC will present models of Ethical Decision Making and discuss submitted questions from conference attendees.
