President responsibilities according to the bylaws:
The President shall be the Chief Executive Officer of VTMHCA and the Chairperson of the Board. He/she shall serve as VTMHCA’s representative to AMHCA and shall appoint any additional representatives permitted by this organization. The President will appoint the chairpersons of all committees and approve committee members unless otherwise specified in these By-laws or by the resolution establishing such committee.
President role:
The President schedules and facilitates all board meetings. They are full voting members of the board. The President is elected by the membership, starting as the President-elect position. The President is a 1-year term (based on fiscal year, July - June).
President-elect responsibilities according to the bylaws:
The President-Elect shall act as President at all Association or Board meetings in the absence of the President. The President-Elect shall work closely with the President to learn about and oversee all activities of VTMHCA.
President-elect role:
The President-elect is elected by the membership for a 1-year term. The President-elect automatically becomes the President at the expiration of the President's term.
Responsibilities:
The President-elect considers future strategic needs of the organization and works with the Board and Committees to help achieve current and future initiatives.
Past-president responsibilities according to the bylaws:
The immediate Past-President shall serve as an advisor to the President.
Past-President role:
The President, upon completion of their 1-year term, immediately becomes Past-President. They are full voting members of the board.
Responsibilities:
The Past-President assists the President in understanding their role as President and advises the on their presidential duties. They also serve as the chairperson of the Nominations and Elections Committee.
Treasurer responsibilities according to the bylaws:
The Treasurer shall receive, deposit and disperse all money belonging to VTMHCA, keep an account of all receipts and expenditures, present a written financial report at each Board meeting that includes an itemized accounting of all expenditures since the preceding meeting. The treasurer shall submit a written summary financial report to the President-Elect and shall transfer all funds and financial records to the President-Elect at the end of the Treasurer's term of office.
Treasurer role:
The Treasurer manages the fiscal tasks of the Association and reports to the board at each board meeting the financial status of the organization. They are full voting members of the board. The Treasurer is elected by the membership for a 1-year term.
Responsibilities:
The Treasurer is responsible for managing all of the monies of the Organization. They are responsible for monitoring and documenting the fiscal activity of the Association and making recommendations regarding financial matters that impact the operation and strategic plan of the Association.
Secretary responsibilities according to the bylaws:
The Secretary shall record and maintain all records of VTMHCA and its Board of Directors. The Secretary shall transmit the minutes of all Board and Association meetings to the membership and assist in conducting the official correspondence of VTMHCA, issue calls and notices of meetings and notify all Association members of election results.
Secretary role:
The Secretary manages the written minutes and communications within the Association. They are full voting members of the board. The Secretary is elected by the membership for a 1-year term.
Responsibilities:
The primary responsibility of the Secretary is to attend all Board meeting, take notes during the meeting, which will become the “Meeting Minutes” to officially reflect the activities of the Board of Directors. This means recording the Board’s agenda items, a brief synopsis of discussion held, who and what motion as are made, and Board voice vote results.
Student Representative role:
The Student Representative must be an active graduate student, working toward a graduate degree in mental health counseling. The Student Representative represents the interests of graduate student members on the Board. They are full voting members of the board. They are appointed to the Board by the vote of the presiding Board. The Student Representative term is 1-year.
Responsibilities:
The Student Representative will be responsible for working with the Mentorship Committee to communicate the mission of VTMHCA to mental health counseling graduate students in Vermont.
Members-at-large role:
The role of Members-at-large is to explore and learn about positions on the Board or for those who would like to continue to serve the Association after having served as an Officer or Committee chairperson. Members-at-large have full voting privileges. The term for this position is 1-year.
Responsibilities:
Members-at-large support and assist various Board chair positions and committees as needed.
Executive Director role:
The Executive Director is the only contracted and paid position within the Association. The Executive Director serves at the leisure of the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is expected to work 20-hours per month on VTMHCA duties and is paid $600 per month.

Committee responsibility according to the bylaws:
The Membership Committee shall be responsible for identifying and implementing plans that will increase VTMHCA's membership and providing guidance for the retention of members. In particular, this committee shall be responsible to maintain a current membership list and current brochures, to communicate with members about renewals, and to coordinate member recruitment.
Membership Committee chairperson role:
The chairperson of this committee will facilitate committee meetings and oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors meeting and report on the work of the committee. The chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of 1-year.
Committee responsibility:
The Ethics Committee is responsible for considering and responding to member's requests for an opinion on ethical matters related to the mental health counseling profession. Upon receipt of a request, the committee discusses the matter and ultimately provides an opinion to the member.
Ethics Committee chairperson role:
The chairperson of this committee will oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors' meetings and report on the work of the committee. The chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of 1-year.
Committee responsibility according to the bylaws:
The Conference Committee shall be responsible for planning and conducting at least one professional development conference for members annually and shall administer all CEU's.
Conference Committee chairperson role:
The chairperson of this committee will facilitate committee meetings and oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors meetings and report on the work of the committee. The chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of 1-year.
Committee responsibility according to the bylaws:
The Legislative Committee shall be responsible for monitoring the activities of the local, state, and national legislatures and to advise VTMHCA of developments and/or legislation that may affect the welfare and working conditions of mental health counselors.
Legislative Committee chairperson role:
The chairperson of this committee will facilitate committee meetings and oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors' meetings and report on the work of the committee. The chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of 1-year.
Committee responsibility:
The Mentorship Committee is responsible for helping graduate students, pre-licensed counselors, newly licensed counselors, and members who have recently moved to Vermont to succeed in the profession by providing development and networking opportunities. The goal of this committee is to provide professional growth, support, and resources through connections with colleagues.
Mentorship Committee chairperson role:
The role of this chairperson is to encourage and oversee mentoring connections among members at various stages of their careers. The chairperson of this committee will facilitate committee meetings and oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors' meetings and report on the work of the committee. The chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of 1-year.
Committee responsibility:
The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) committee is responsible for ensuring VTMHCA is considering the needs and impact of diversity, equity, and inclusion in all of the Associations deliberations and decisions. In addition, the committee will focus on DEI considerations of the counseling profession in Vermont, which includes licensing, education, and the work of counselors.

The chairperson of this committee will facilitate committee meetings and oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors meetings and report on the work of the committee. The chairperson is appointed by the President for a term of 1-year.
Committee responsibility according to the bylaws:
The Nominations and Elections Committee shall be responsible for determining nominations for Board positions and administering elections procedures in accordance with these By-laws.
Nominations and Elections Committee chairperson role:
The Past-President serves as the chairperson of this committee. They will facilitate committee meetings and oversee the work of the committee. The chairperson is a Board member with full voting rights. They will attend the board of directors meetings and report on the work of the committee.
